Farewell to friends
May 2024 - Brian Clarke
It is with sadness that the Club marks the sudden passing of Brian Clarke who died on 24 May. We send our sincere condolences to his partner Sue, his daughters Wendy and Sally and their families.
Brian joined in April 2021 and soon became an active member. This led him to join the Committee in 2022 and he was often first at the green setting it up for matches. Brian was a regular player for the Club and also competed in many of our competitions, winning the Open Championship in 2023 and the inaugural Memorial Trophy pairs in May 2024.
Brian's cheery friendliness and down-to-earth views on life will be greatly missed.

April 2024 - Sue Day
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Sue Day on 2 April 2024 and we send our sincere condolences to husband Tony and family Bev, Darren, Abbey and Lewis.
Sue joined the Club in 2005 and soon became a key member involved in many aspects of playing and running events.
Sue was Club Treasurer for 14 years through to 2024 and together with Tony formed a formidable partnership supporting the Club.
In recognition of all her efforts, she was nominated for Honorary Membership in 2024.
Sue’s generous character, bowling ability and friendship to so many in the Club will be greatly missed.
October 2023 - Ron Sheasby
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Sheasby on 27 October 2023 and we send our sincere condolences to his daughter Heather and her partner Stan.
Ron joined the Club in 2018. His plain speaking, wicked humour and boundless energy quickly endeared him to his fellow members. Always keen to help, Ron willingly offered his time to do various jobs and regularly visited the club between matches with his dog Mac to make sure all was well. He became a Committee member and was particularly proud to be our flag man, raising and lowering it for each home match. Most impressively, as a 90 year old, during many matches and rollups, he regularly showed how well he had learned to play bowls, a game he thoroughly enjoyed.
Ron will be greatly missed by us all.
June 2023 - Len Stow
It is with sadness that the Club remembers long-serving member
Len Stow who died on 5 June.
Len joined in 1996 and was an active member for 25 years. A regular player for the Club, he also competed in many competitions, winning the Championship Cup in 2007 and the Norman Cup pairs in 2006 and 2010.
We send our condolences and best wishes to all of Len’s family.
December 2021 - Neville Smith
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Neville Smith, a long-standing member of the Club. Neville worked at GEC Willans as Print Shop Supervisor. He began playing bowls during the early 1960s and bowled for the GEC Willans club, later becoming the groundsman.
He is remembered for maintaining the bowling green wearing his Union Jack shorts being seen by many from the office block. When GEC sold off land including the bowling green for housing, Neville joined Caldecott Bowling Club in the 1990's during which time he took on the Captain's role. He continued to bowl outdoors until his health prevented him but he did not stop there.
In recent years, many can remember him travelling to Thornfield in his disability scooter to bowl indoors. Neville was a loud, charismatic and likeable personality who will be greatly missed.
8 March 2021 - Alva Chapman
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Alva Chapman who passed away peacefully in the early hours of 8 March.
Alva was a longstanding member of Caldecott Park Bowling Club and was Ladies Captain in 1997-1998. She only left when moving to Devon with her son Michael and daughter-in-law Sue, who were also members.
Alva will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with Michael and Sue at this sad time.
11 January 2021 - Joyce Orland
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Orland who first joined the club in the early 1960's and her husband Roy was also a member.Â
Joyce was President 2007-2009 and in 2012 was made a Life Member of Caldecott Park Bowling Club in recognition of her services to the club.
When Joyce's diminishing sight meant she had to stop playing bowls, she still came to the club regularly and supported by helping in the kitchen and attending our dinners and special bowls occasions such as Presidents Days.
Joyce will be greatly missed.
2 June 2020 - Richard Meadows
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Meadows on 30th May after a short battle with cancer. He had the disease some years ago but it had returned, unbeknown to him until his last week, where it had spread to other vital organs.Â
Richard was a much loved Dad, Grandad and friend who had a wonderful life.Â
He was well liked by all in the Club and will be greatly missed.
